Corallium Dunamar by Lopesan Hotels

The facility is well maintained and was recently updated, location next to the beach Playa del Ingles (300m) and a short walk to the city centre cca 10 min walk (Maspalomas), lots of bars/restaurants/casinos/ect nearby. Large rooms (cca 35 m2), our had a balcony - sea view, 14th floor (the hotel itself has best views of the Playa del Ingles), but the extras do come with price increase (still: good value hotel). The breakfast is very good, plenty of variety (TIP: if the food-quantity is your "vacation fetish" go for the "Hotel HL Suitehotel Playa del Ingles"). WiFi is opened and "P2P friendly", average speed and ping. Staff was OK: they have a fixed-rate taxi to the airport (30 min drive cca; price: 40 EUR). Havent tried the gym or other facilities; see parking under "cons" section. Maspalomas is located on the south of the Gran Canaria island, best option for sun-seekers and beach-live, which brings me to ... GENERAL GRAN CANARIA WEATHER WARNING: the north of the Gran Canaria Island (Las Palmas, main city) is ALMOST ALWAYS cloudy with VERY limited sunshine (but still warm naturally ...), so if the beach&sun is you main priority go for other sections, south (including MasPalomas) is the best option!!! For petrol-head: Maspalomas even has a raceway: book Supercar Gran Canaria and drive a few laps in a 360 Modena Ferrari for cca 120 EUR! (7/2019)

Parking in Playa del Ingles (or Gran Canaria in general) is a mess, so with rental car there is a lot of "logistics" involved. Luckily there is a large open-air (not-covered) private parking at the Playa entrance (cca 13 EUR/day), close to the hotel. The Avoid the Yumbo center: full of shady bars and characters, definitely not a family destination by night (a true definition of a "skid row"). One more thing: for this price-range there could be hotel-reserved (meaning: free ...) section of the beach, with reserved places. Taxi to the airport is the same price as the usual fare (no discount). (7/2019)
