Voordelen: The breakfast was very good, tasty and very filling which set us up for the rest of the day. The location was superb and within easy reach to all Southend's amenities and finding lifts down to the promenade was an added bonus. The discounted parking charge is excellent value and was easily set up by the guesthouse owner with no hassle.

Nadelen: The only downside was having the bed right next to the wall so only one side had access to a bedside table and direct access to the bathroom, without having to climb over the other person should you need to get up in the night. An additional shelf in the bathroom would be useful too. Having said that we were aware when we booked it was a small double room so for a short 2-day break this did not spoil our stay at this lovely guesthouse.

Voordelen: het ontbijt was super !!! en allemaal met de glimlach bediend ! ook gezellig buiten kunnen eten in de heel verzorgde en uiterst gezellige voortuin !! de bediening was echt subliem en altijd even goed gezind personeel en de eigenaars waren superlief en zo behulpzaam !!

Nadelen: onze kamer was op de hoogste verdieping gelegen en gezien onze leeftijd (allebei 70 +) was het voor ons zeer moeilijk om in één keer al die trappen te beklimmen ! eens boven was het ok hoor - de kamer was top !!

Voordelen: Mooi uitzicht over het water. Zeer comfortabel bed, thee en koffie op de kamer. Vriendelijke eigenaren en medewerkers. De eigenaar gaf bij binnenkomst nuttige info over de omgeving zodat je gelijk al de belangrijkste punten in de omgeving kan vinden. Uitgebreid ontbijt mogelijk. Op loopafstand van winkels en station maar toch rustig. Direct langs een weg maar die is zo stil 's avonds dat dat niet uitmaakt. De toegevoegde foto toont het uitzicht vanuit de kamer.

Nadelen: Voor lange mensen is de douchecabine wat klein. (1.88/6'2'')

Voordelen: Lovely hotel. I booked a small double as I was on my own. My room was small but perfectly formed. Beautifully furnished, quality bed and linen, robes, slippers and toiletries. Also lots of sockets with USB points. Very friendly staff and the breakfast was lovely and great value. Look forward to returning.

Voordelen: Alles. Een heel mooi en verzorgd hotel, op alle gebied. Uiterst proper en net. Aangename kamers en een leuke infrastructuur tegenover het strand gelegen, waar in tegenstelling tot veel plaatsen in UK veel in geïnvesteerd wordt om alles kraaknet en proper te houden. Het personeel is het kloppend hart van het hotel. Elke dag opnieuw staan ze er met een glimlach om je verblijf zo aangenaam mogelijk te maken. Daarbij denk ik dan vooral aan Joelle, Levi, Franky en Mary . Zij waren steeds paraat om alles zo vlot mogelijk te laten verlopen met onze zoon die diabetes type 1 heeft. Ze zijn subtiel, maar steeds ondersteunend aanwezig. Uiterst aangename mensen. Ook de kok verdient een pluim. Zijn eten is inspirerend, super lekker en tot in de puntjes afgekruid. Met de rest hadden we minder contact, maar het viel mij op met hoeveel plezier ze aanwezig zijn, wat heel aangenaam en ontspannend aanvoelt. Kortom een super verblijf !

Voordelen: The staff are excellent - well trained, polite and helpful. The food is superb - breakfast, lunch and dinner. The bedrooms are exquisite with good toiletries and excellent tea and coffee making facilities with biscuits and free soft drinks. Public areas in the hotel, including the bar area, is inviting. A 24 hour bar for residents!

Nadelen: I was not expecting buffet breakfast. Its a little intimidating for lone women travellers to have to keep getting up to the buffet or to find the staff to ask for toast/more coffee.

The pictures in internet are a bit misleading as they are a birds eye view and appears you could walk over the road onto the beach. In reality over the road is a cement break/ wall.

Nadelen: Overpriced, dated, hallway smelt musky, had to check out early due to family emergency and wasn’t even offered a refund on night I didnt stay !

Voordelen: Zeer lekker ontbijt - niet extreem uitgebreid, maar alles van goede kwaliteit. Goede bedden, aangename badkamer. Douche in het bad, is wat moeilijker, wij hebben liever een walk-in douche.

Nadelen: Ik had 2 kamers gereserveerd en bij het inchecken vroeg de receptionist mij die dadelijk te betalen met mn kaart , maar 's morgens bij het uitchecken bleek dat hij voor een van de kamers maar een pre-autorisatie had genomen, dus moest ik nog eens betalen. Dat was niet aangenaam, hij was beter wat duidelijker geweest bij het inchecken

Voordelen: The leisure facilities (in our case the swimming pools indoor and outdoor) were excellent, as were the staff in charge of them. Also for the evening meal we ate in the less formal Bar area, the food was excellent as was the service.

Nadelen: Lead to believe by reviews that breakfast was prepared on an individual basis, this was not the case as we were confronted by a buffet style arrangement, unfortunately the food presented this way on both mornings was somewhat "less hot" than we expected. This was brought to the attention of staff who checked (by hand) that all was well! Asking about this matter at reception I was informed that freshly cooked (individual) breakfast was only available when guest numbers at the hotel did not exceed a certain number, if they did the chef would be unable to cope and breakfasts were then served on the buffet style service which we experienced, a little disappointing I'm afraid. Maybe this is just a personal Quirk of mine, but I like to take breakfast in peace and quiet not with local commercial radio + adverts ringing in my ears!!!Very nice hotel

Nadelen: I found breakfast odd as there was no menu I was treated like the contractors and given options verbally of ‘full English’ scrambled eggs etc. Travelling as a lone woman it is nice to be treated differently to the contractors in their work gear. I was in a suit.

Voordelen: The breakfast was very good. When I reported the missing tv remote the receptionist said she would get it replaced, but told her we would not be needing it as only there one night

Nadelen: The hotel looked nice, great location, however, once in the room I found rubbish left from the previous occupants in the wardrobe and one drawer, there was no TV remote, heavy dust on lamps above the bed, in the bathroom the grouting in the shower area needed cleaning. On the bed was a small throw across the bed, with a huge yellowy stain on it, which I could only describe as dried bodily fluid. This was very apparent and clearly visible to whomever made up the bed. Plus the glass shelves, in the breakfast room, above the toaster had a heavy layer of dust on them.

Voordelen: We stayed at the Best western hotel to go to a wedding, it was a good choice, the staff were really nice.

Voordelen: The hotel is quite pleasant, parking is a breeze, the grounds are well kept with nice outdoor furniture etc. Ideal for a function. Staff on check in were very pleasant and efficient. the staff otherwise, seemed to be a little "inconvenienced" by customers....

Nadelen: As I said, quite nice, but it is located close by the A12.. that's a very busy road 24 / 7 ...The room lacked Air Con and was too warm to keep the windows closed(the heating was off) ....however, the road is too noisy to keep them open. The room itself felt a bit "cheap & nasty" and was a bit tired and dated.

Nadelen: We paid £200 for a “Queen” room. Not worth it at all. The room was dirty, staff were no helpful, single glazed windows meant we were freezing, though when I complained, we were given the tiniest fan heater I’ve ever seen. Not that it done much. The bed was uncomfortable, room was dirty, spider webs on the ceiling and corners, dead spiders and daddy long legs too on the ceiling. Room was dusty, lights weren’t secured to the wall properly. Bathroom was hideous, I was expecting a decent bathroom but instead got a hot and cold tap (was fun trying to wash my face) which meant I had to go from right to left to avoid freezing or scalding my face, no bathroom amenities fit for use. The shower was shockingly appalling, no shower hose, just one half broken shower head with no pressure and water sprays everywhere but your body, previous owners pubes on the floor and stuck on the shower wall. Toilet requires 3 flushes for a wee... you don’t want to know how many for a 2! All in all, pictures are very misleading, I should have booked the Holiday Inn! Very disappointed and definitely not worth £200 per night, at most £70

Ik was verrast dat er behalve thee en koffie zelfs koekjes waren. Gaaf dat er kennelijk een molen gezeten had in dit gebouw. En de tuin achter buiten: geweldig!

Nadelen: Het raampje op de kamer wilde niet open (bij andere kamers wel, denk dat deze erg klemde??) en de gordijnen die met klittenband bevestigd waren vielen makkelijk op de grond. Logisch dat ze niet op een rail zaten vanwege de vorm van het raam, maar de stof was te zwaar voor deze oplossing.

Nadelen: The lodge in beautifully decorated it’s gorgeous however the cleaning could be better as the lodge had a musky smell and could do with shampooing the carpet, or do something to give it fresh smell .

Voordelen: Nice and clean bed comfortable and sea view was perfect.

Nadelen: En-suite tiny and cramped with knees up against sink unit. Kettle had to stay on the floor even when in use due to short cord.

Voordelen: Warm welcome, friendly atmosphere made me feel very at ease.

Voordelen: The room was clean and well stocked with tea and coffee, the staff were friendly.

Nadelen: Almost booked a nearby place at half the price, but was swung by the prospect of an 'Executive Room'. The Waverley has some really lovely rooms... but not all of them it seems, & unfortunately the room we got was a disappointing one - duvet had cigarette burn; carpet was most stained I've ever seen; room was cramped; had to stand on the bed to operate tv from the top (no remote). It's a shame as some rooms looked great, but that just makes it even more disappointing when you pay the same money for one of the poorer ones. We asked if there was another room - but they were all reserved, which shows that people in the know, do return. For a lovely stay ask for one of the more recently refurbished rooms, otherwise you might be disappointed

Voordelen: Lovely styled room, nice suprise. loved the sofa. loads of tea, sugar and milk always an asset

Nadelen: Heating didnt work. toilet was heavily stained and smelt, holes in the sheets blinds didnt close at the bottom, had to stand on sofa to draw the curtain. fire alarm sounds 'fire in zone 1. there wasnt any members of staff on site so I dealt with it, muting the alarm and calling a number. My guess is a smoker but if it hadnt been we could have been in trouble

Voordelen: Good clean family run hotel. Pleasant staff, good facilities and close to attractions. a great bar/bistro with a seaside outlook was situated on the beach a few yards away.

Nadelen: None

Voordelen: We didn’t get breakfast was late both times

Voordelen: The rooms were lovely. Staff were very helpful. I had a lovely sea view.

Nadelen: The parking at the Royals was a nightmare as very busy with shoppers and very tight.

Voordelen: The room was huge, the accessories in the room were unexpected but very pleasant.

Nadelen: The food was over priced for what you get. The drinks were overpriced as well considering I received a flat pint of Amstel, I then asked for it to be changed because there was no head and they just held the pint at a different angle so it got some head where as the pint was still flat and the barrel needed changing.

Voordelen: Ligging en ontbijt.

Nadelen: Slechte hoofdkussens. Geen koelkastje op de kamer.

Voordelen: I loved the location. You are right in the middle of everything

Nadelen: the young lad serving the breakfast had a face like a wet week, he ought to get a job somewhere he enjoys working

Voordelen: Great sea view family room great view to wake up to in the morning. As there was only two of us there was plenty of room the ability to cast netflix to the tv was great

Nadelen: The beds were really uncomfortable and me and my partner both had back aches, they’ve pushed two single beds together to make a double!

Voordelen: De locatie was prima.

Nadelen: Vieze badkamer met veel schimmel, vies tapijt en een raam wat kapot was. Prijs/kwaliteit verhouding niet in orde. Kamer heeft een update nodig.

Voordelen: The bed was large and comfortable, chairs and table added extra, efficient shower, although over the bath and difficult to enter, and tea making facilities adequate. Breakfast good value and help yourself so enough selection and tasty.

Nadelen: The reception lacked warmth, but efficient. The hotel is more a motel, so our room was outside and as it was raining a bit uncomfortable. if our room had been further away we would have been upset.. We thought we were booking an hotel room and was unaware of the outside buildings.

Voordelen: The bed was very comfortable and the bedding exceptionally clean.

Nadelen: The bathroom was clean, however the flooring was poor and marked and the carpet was stained

Voordelen: Easy 5min taxi ride to airport, big bathroom and spacious with big tescos 20min walk away. Kettle in the room and great tv channels

Voordelen: Being on the ground floor as asked. Hotel was clean.

Nadelen: Restaurant could have been opened when it was advertised to have one ( we had to eat in the bar area }. The grounds the Hotel was in could have been looked after better. Menu was very limited and processed cheese used in sandwiches instead of fresh cheese.

Voordelen: Location was decent for what we needed and breakfast was lovely

Nadelen: Room was a little dated and a bit more attention to detail on the cleaning needed

Nadelen: This hotel or at least my room would benefit from a major refurb. Green limescale on shower head, bath curtain hanger all rusty, carpet full of stains, even in the corridors, the smell of old and wet, window did not close fully as one of the handels was loose. And to top it off I found a live butterfly on the window. I did not complain as I stayed just 1 night and I'm quite convinced other rooms would be just about the same.

Voordelen: Stayed for one night before flying from Southend airport. Bit of a strange place, but the rooms were clean and the reception / bar staff were friendly. It suited our needs for a quick one night before an early start. Quick cab ride into Leigh-on-Sea for dinner.

Nadelen: Geen Wifi in kamer. Geen koelkast. Fles matige wijn van bar voor kamer zeer duur. Oud meubilair .

Voordelen: - Location close by to where I needed to visit. - Good parking facility - staff were great and very accommodating - excellent breakfast

Nadelen: WiFi - I was allocated a room in the Anex building. Property was advertised with free WiFi but there was no internet connectivity there. Called up reception and they advised me you only get WiFi in the main building. I really needed WiFi so in the end I had to tether my phone with my laptop and use my phone data. Heating - Also the air con continuously blowed cold air when I wanted the heating on. Had to contact reception 3 times to get it sorted. Bathroom - countertop edges rotting away and was sellotaped down along the side. Towels looked really old so was not sure if they were just re-folded / washed. Overall - the room was a little out dated. Need a bit of TLC. Staff were great and excellent breakfast.

Voordelen: Ontbijt was sober, maar goed. Wat het meest beviel dat het om de hoek bij vliegveld Southend Airport lag en 10 minuten met openbaar vervoer van de zee af.

Nadelen: de prijs wel iets en het feit dat je geen wifi op de kamer had. Alleen bij de receptie.

Nadelen: Toilets struggle to flush You can either shower with super hot or cold water. Hotel is pretty dated.

Voordelen: It was easy to find and close enough to the wedding venue. Staff were friendly and helpful. Breakfast orders were taken individually, which made for less wastage and also, were freshly made to order.

Nadelen: It would be helpful if parking instructions could be sent to customers beforehand. For the price we paid, we expected the standard of a holiday inn / premier inn. The hotel is very dated and dark but provided all the basics required for an overnight stay. One light bulb was also not working in the room. No lifts are available so luggage had to be carried up multiple flights of stairs. Coffee - fresh coffee would be appreciated instead of instant coffee. The shower was also very basic and did not have much water pressure.

Voordelen: Ontbijt in orde. Locatie: het was slechts voor 1 overnachting, op weg naar vakantie met familie, dus OK.

Nadelen: We hadden in de douche enkel heet water de eerste avond, een douche was dus heel kort, de volgende morgen konden we niet meer douchen, enkel een bad nemen met heet water.

Voordelen: The rooms are a really good size and the building is nice with a decent size bar, breakfast was nice and worth having with a quick service. I was very sceptical about staying here after reading the reviews but honestly it's a 2 star hotel, don't expect the hilton and you won't be disappointed.

Nadelen: The smells in the corridors, absolutely dreadful. The carpets are old but it's a cheap hotel so acceptable, the pictures in room 41!! What on earth are they!!

Nadelen: Door in poor state of repair. Noise from bar and adjacent nightclub went on till late. Could smell cigarette smoke from other rooms, despite being non-smoking hotel.

Voordelen: The breakfast was cooked to perfection. All entertainment, pubs/bars, shops, eateries within a five minute walk.

Nadelen: Decor a little out dated but for the price & delicious breakfast we definitely cant complain.

Voordelen: Breakfast was hot and served quickly with friendly staff.

Nadelen: Arrived Friday night, no one on reception, had to get key from bar which was terribly noisy as had a disco on until 1am. Saturday night there was a live band on again until 1am & people leaving were noisy outside until 2.30am, also people returning to rooms and banging doors until 2.30am, so no sleep. Bed was terribly uncomfortable too Hotel needs a total refurb
